Every hotel AI vendor will show you the knowledge editor. It is on the demo script now, right after the voice sample: here is the dashboard, here is where the answers live, here is the edit button. The checkbox gets checked and the evaluation moves on.
Wrong question. The existence of an editor tells you almost nothing. Here is the question that separates a bot your team trusts from a bot your team apologizes for: yesterday afternoon, your AI told a caller the pool closes at 8pm. It closes at 10. How long until the bot says 10?
We call that number Time to Correction (TTC): the elapsed time from “the bot said something wrong” to “the bot says it right.” Not the time to file the report. Not the time to acknowledge the ticket. The time until the next guest who asks gets the right answer.
Every stack on the market lands in one of three TTC bands, and the band tells you more about the product than the feature list does.
The industry answers in days, hours, or minutes
Days. The managed-service model puts trained humans between you and the agent. Travel Outlook’s Annette is the cleanest example: a team of hospitality experts builds, maintains, and updates the agent on the hotel’s behalf. There are real advantages here, consistency, quality control, zero lift on the property. But the correction path runs through people who do not work at your hotel. You notice the error, you report it, it enters a queue, someone updates the agent, someone verifies. Every step is competent. The sum is days.
Hours. Developer-grade platforms hand you the dashboard. Someone technical edits a prompt, uploads a document, redeploys, tests. TTC drops to hours, which is a real improvement, with one catch: it assumes there is someone technical available to do it. Most independent hotels do not have that person on shift. Many do not have that person at all.
Minutes. Operator-grade self-serve puts the edit button in front of the person who caught the error. The race to shrink TTC is the tell
Watch what the market is converging on. “Self-healing.” “Instantly reflected.” “Staff-managed.” Every serious vendor is now marketing the speed of correction, and the convergence is an admission: the original wound in hotel AI was slow, vendor-gated correction. Nobody races to fix a problem that was not costing anyone. Let that information go stale and you have automated the erosion of trust, not the delivery of it. In a hotel, “user trust” is not an abstraction. It is whether the GM lets the bot keep answering the phone.
And a long TTC compounds while you wait. The error does not pause while the ticket ages. The bot repeats the wrong pool hours to every caller until the fix lands. A three-day TTC on a question asked ten times a day is thirty wrong answers, each one a withdrawal from the trust account, and staff learn the lesson fast: do not rely on the bot. That lesson outlives the fix.
An editor nobody opens has infinite TTC
There is a subtle failure mode past the checkbox. The editor exists, it is technically self-serve, but it wants a training session, a login the front desk does not have, a schema the ops manager does not understand. So nobody opens it. Corrections queue in someone’s mental backlog, and measured honestly, TTC is infinite.
Which means the differentiator is not whether the editor exists. It is whether TTC is low enough that a non-technical operator actually uses it, on shift, the moment she catches the error. That is a product bar, and it is the one we hold ourselves to.
So ask your vendor one question: the bot is wrong about the pool hours right now. Walk me through every minute until it is not.
